They don't feel overly coated (rubbery) to the touch when fingerpicking which is a plus in my books but when sliding, for instance in solos, you will notice the rubbery resistance. Not because of the name, just I found them to be the strings I like best. For brighter guitars that need to be mellowed down a little I use Martin Lifespans as they sound darker and warmer to my ears. I thought these were the strings that came with my Gibson J-45 when I purchased it. GOOD STRINGS, they sound GREAT, BUT THEY LOSE TONE VERY QUICKLY, within 2 hours of playing. These strings are not coated, so they do not last as long as coated strings, but they sound wonderfully deep producing that great Gibson sound that I was looking for in the strings and guitar. Anyway, I put a set of these on, and boom... there it was, that spectacular sound that ruthlessly drained my walled at the guitar store years ago. I cannot find them anywhere else for a reasonable price. But then I tried them on my Strats, and they were awesome!
