For me right from the first day i heard this story i have never seen Esua to be a bad person, in fact when i ever i come a person named Jacob i treat them as they have something decietful. Again, she felt that Jacob was the “bad guy” for this deception and taking what belonged to Esau. All sons receive a "portion" of the inheritance of their father, but the one who receives the birthright receives a double portion. In verse 23 of this chapter we learn that God had told Jacob’s mother before the twin boys were born that “the elder shall serve the younger” and perhaps Jacob thought divine providence was at play here and that his acquiring the birthright in this way was one step towards that end. I believe Jacob wanted that inheritance. Abraham is an example of one who was willing to sacrifice what no man wants to sacrifice all because of the Lord and in the moment that he prepared his sacrifice, the Lord provided. But Jacob said, ‘Sell me your birthright as of this day.’ And Esau said, ‘Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?’ then Jacob said, ‘Swear to me as of this day.’ So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. The Lord answered and told Paul (2 Corinthians 12:9), “my grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”  What God has for you is of great importance – you should take it to be important. Why didn’t Isaac revoke the blessing and give it to Esau? And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. Your question “Why did Jacob get blessed anyway?” is valid. Esau had given up his birthright to his younger brother but there was something else that was very special in a family. From verses 30-36 we see the return of Esau from the field and Isaac learns that he was indeed deceived by his younger son. So, what is the take away from all of this? I’m blessed. I believe it states that Esau despises his birthright before Jacob flees to Laban's - while Esau is still a young man. He had said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” but the truth is he wasn’t starving to death; he was simply “weary.” It showed that he valued his “physical appetite” more than he did his “spiritual blessings.” Hundreds of years later God had this to say about Esau in Hebrews 12:16, “That there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal” (NASB). Their mind is set on earthly things. Like you said we should not take God’s promises in our lives lightly it is the mistake of many brethren today but life will most times leave us with no choice.
