Topgraphic, That's about and hour and 15 minutes longer than they were on mine. Different people had different ideas about which string they thought sounded best (as should be), but the result for me was that Elixer Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze became my string of choice for all my different acoustic guitars and I have been using them sincee. I prefer the Poly's, the Nano's squeak on me. Every now and then something new comes along and I give it a try (and write a little review) but I haven't done the back to back blind recording that I did back in 2008. When I bought my OM-28 a few years ago, the dealer threw in a set of D'Addario coated strings and once I put them on, I couldn't get them off fast enough as I've never been a fan of coated strings. That company is owned by Al Dronge's son. any others out there care to share their experiences between the two? Seems obviously missing from your pitch for coated strings versus a humid environment. Isn't that what these forums are for: to share info and help each other out? FWIW, I agree with you about the HD Lights - they're good strings!

Elixirs are OK and make almost no finger squeak noises. I load up on strings on trips to USA, as prices here are 2-3x higher. To my ears, the Lifespans feel and sound less coated. × To me, Martins sound a bit more natural and do not last as long. I've used some Martins but didn't like the ones I tried. However, my Taylor 314 really loves these strings. Ditto for the island of Yap in the Western Carolines. ); Ibanez Musician fretless, 1980s; Seymour Duncan Tube 84-40; Vox AC4TV; I had tried Elixers years ago and found a dead sound that stayed dead for a long time until the coating started to shred. They last but they're wrapped in paper. If my other computer hadn't gone south recently I could show photos. Oh, and the corrosive beach air of the Pacific and Atlantic on-shore breezes (pick a credible place) should be highlighted to pitch the coated strings so don't forget that in your next promotion. Sound wise they are pretty normal PB - mellow and warm, nothing really bad but not outstanding either. Oh, and the corrosive beach air of the Pacific and Atlantic on-shore breezes (pick a credible place) should be highlighted to pitch the coated strings so don't forget that in your next promotion. Anyway, to my point. I'm a pretty devout Elixir Nano PB player and have been for a couple of years now.. but I must say that when my OM28 returned from repair work in Nazareth, the Lifespan strings that came with it have been pretty impressive. Anyway, I put the Lifespans on my favorite old 000 and within a week they had started tarnishing at the first five frets on all strings - they looked like they had been on forever.

I just took a set of LifeSpan 80/20s off one of my mahogany guitars; they were on for about an hour and a half...which was about an hour and half too long, IMHO. I actually kinda like the Lifespans on that guitar. I just put a set of the martin lifespan msp 7100 on my GPCPA1.

Not good to my ears.

I just put a set of the martin lifespan msp 7100 on my GPCPA1. I have the Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze lights on my other daily use guitar and I have to say at this point I like the feel and tone of the Elixir string a lot better, They are a bit less expensive too. In addition, if I played very long I would get black stuff on my finger tips - whatever the treatment is it seems to wear off pretty rapidly. However, I decided I had just talked myself into believing it. I don't care for Elixirs all that much. Martin sent us the new Re-inspired D28 and D18 guitars to demo and review and they came strung with the Lifespan 2.0s in the same gauge I had on my guitar. There are many different strings that are just as enjoyable, if for slightly different reasons. I resent the tone of "promotion" and 'pitch" regarding my comments. Anyway, the are lights on the bottom three with a medium (13 and 17) on the first two and something in between (25) on the third. One set and gone. I would have a problem with these strings mainly because I like to do whole-tone bends on either the B or E strings, and that would be a bit of a struggle. Maybe I should make a video of opening a pack and post it? After 10 hours of playing a fresh set of DR Sunbeams I'm dying to change them. I watched a few of elixir's videos on the HDs basically it was designed primarily for small bodied guitars. They also don't sound great on every guitar either. Hello everyone I just bought an acoustic guitar yesterday (sigma dr28h) and they came with Martin type E3 strings. A few of you might remember the great string test of some years ago - I posted clips of a number of different strings on the same guitar. They were apparently developed for use on some Taylor models and they come in both PB and 80/20 with the thinner Nanoweb coating. I resent the tone of "promotion" and 'pitch" regarding my comments. Don't know about the Martin monels but DR Zebras, GHS White Bronze, John Pearse Nickel Wound, or Newtone Electro-Acoustic or Jazz would all fit the bill, depending on what's available where you are. Easy to understand why stringed instruments are not too common native inventions.[/quote'].   Your link has been automatically embedded.

Muted and soul-less. It has even taken finish off Tacoma jumbo, came off like hunks of sunburned skin in May. The idea was to compare the two main compositions of the windings (PB vs 80/20) and to see if coatings had any effect on the sound and life of the string. My experience of Elixirs here in hot' date=' humid, salty air by beach in Thailand is that they outlast the others by a wide margin, and retain their sound in the bargain. I am not exaggerating. The strings literally felt identical in tension and elasticity to the one and half month old strings on my guitar. That said, my tech took the liberty of installing Martin Lifespan strings on my newly acquired Halcyon NL-00 after taking it in for a set up. © 1995-2019 Harmony Central, Inc. All rights reserved. Clear editor. What a shame about the Lifespans--I would have expected better of Martin' date=' since I usually use their uncoated strings and like them a lot. Tried EXPs, Everclear, Martin lifespan, etc. I do prefer the sound of fresh Sunbeams, but Elixir PB's also sound great and I use them on my acoustic electric. Anything is possible in an ad but when it comes to reality, not so much. When I mentioned the tarnishing to a clerk at the store he said he had heard that from several other people too. Tuning a set of lights down to open D or G always left the top couple of string fairly slack - I could never get really clean slide playing with them. I'm sure there are valid scientific reasons behind it--probably composition?--but it beats me. I look forward to trying them out when I get back to the States later this year. Polyweb's give you the most unnatural feel which is the biggest trade off.
Timing is everything... Just changed from my usual elixer pbs light to 80/20 mediums and I'll be going right back to pb on my next set... All blackwood Taylor 426ce. String review - Martin Lifespans, Elixer HD Lights. If you're coming from Elixrs to these, you will definitely get more finger squeak, but it's not that big a deal for me. By

Regular strings will just blow off the guitar in a few weeks, and get to wipe off overnight rust before playing. I actually put my Elixirs in a plastic bag because they may be sitting there for a year or more. I've tried them, and I like their sound a bit more than Elixirs. Elixir Polyweb strings can go for over six months (just depends on use). Final note on "paper or plastic": have some packs of Martins, in paper for quite some time and no rust problem. But the trebles have significantly more punch that standard lights - that tiny difference in tension really makes the top string stand out. I've tried the LJ Signature strings myself, nice but I found them kind of harsh, almost too bright?
